The Group Fitness Instructor Course from the Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST) is a professional program designed to train participants to lead group fitness sessions efficiently and safely. The course covers designing group training programs, diverse group exercises, movement coordination, cardiovascular and muscular fitness, and basic nutrition for trainees. It is designed to provide participants with the practical and theoretical knowledge required to conduct effective group fitness classes while ensuring participant safety and promoting team spirit. The course is suitable for anyone looking to develop professional skills in fitness training without requiring prior experience.

Eligibility:
Anyone interested in entering the field of group fitness training (no prior experience required).
What You Will Learn:
Upon completing this course, the student will learn:
Aerobic training
Teaching aerobic exercises
Basic step exercises
Duration:
The total program duration is 136 training hours, to be completed within 3 months from registration.
Online Study – 92 hours:
Study the theoretical material from the scientific curriculum and course book.
Watch instructional videos and listen to audio lectures available on the Academy platform.
Complete quizzes and the final theoretical exam via the SAST platform.
Practical Training – 40 hours:
Participate in practical training as a group fitness trainer, assisting in or leading sessions, under direct supervision of the fitness center management.
Training is documented using two forms: Training Approval Form and Performance Evaluation Form, available in the Exams section.
After completing the training, both forms must be uploaded to the platform, signed and stamped by the fitness center.
The final practical exam can only be taken after successful completion of practical training.
Final Practical Exam – 4 hours:
Includes preparation and execution of the final practical group fitness exam.

Exams and Passing Requirements:
The course includes both theoretical and practical assessments. The exam and passing system is as follows:
1. Theoretical Exams:
All theoretical exams at SAST are conducted electronically via the platform, with random questions from a question bank based on the course curriculum. They are automatically graded, and results are displayed immediately.
Quizzes:
Students must pass mandatory quizzes for each chapter before proceeding to the final exam.
Each quiz contains no more than 10 multiple-choice questions.
Exam time is one minute per question.
Passing score: 80%.
Quizzes can be retaken an unlimited number of times.
The final theoretical exam cannot be taken until all quizzes are passed.
Final Theoretical Exam:
Students may take the final exam after passing all quizzes.
Passing score: 60%.
Exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions with four options each.
Duration: 50 minutes.
Students have a maximum of two attempts to pass.
Additional attempts can be requested for $50 per attempt.
The final practical exam cannot be taken unless the theoretical exam is passed.
2. Practical Training Assessment:
40 hours of practical training assisting or leading group sessions, under direct supervision of the fitness center.
Training is documented using the Training Approval Form and Performance Evaluation Form.
Forms must be uploaded, signed, and stamped by the fitness center.
The final practical exam can only be taken after successful completion of practical training.
3. Final Practical Exam – Group Fitness Choreography:
Includes a variety of randomly assigned training scenarios.
Scenario details are displayed at the start of the exam in the Exams section.
Exam scheduled during the last two days of the course, coordinated with the instructor and academic supervisor.
Conducted in a fitness center for approximately 30 minutes.
Practical Exam Details:
Group Training Program Preparation:
Students must prepare a program for one group fitness session (choreography) with at least 10 consecutive exercises performed in sequence with suitable music, maintaining intensity progression and rhythm.
Program must explain proper exercise execution, focusing on movement coordination, rhythm control, and participant motivation.
Evaluation and Passing Criteria:
Students are evaluated on program design quality, leadership, timing and rhythm control, clarity of instructions, and technique.
Final result: “Pass” (with possible feedback) or “Fail” for major errors, weak leadership, or poor group coordination.
Retake Policy:
Students who do not pass may take an additional exam for $50 per attempt.
Exam Requirements:
The final practical exam can only be taken after successful completion of all previous theoretical and practical requirements.
Final Grade Calculation:
Practical Exam: 50%
Theoretical Exam: 25%
Practical Training: 25%
Students must pass all three components to receive the certificate. All exams must be completed within 45 days of course start.
Certificate:
Upon successful completion, students receive a certificate sent to their email and stored in their profile on the Academy platform, officially accredited by:
- Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST)
- Global Council of Sport Science (GCSS)
- International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE)
- Register of Exercise Professionals Tunisia (REPS Tunisia) – for Tunisian students
- International Confederation of Registers of Exercise Professionals (ICREPs) – for Tunisian students
- Ministry of Professional Training and Employment (MFPE) – for Tunisian students
